  • What are the differences between the Smart Enlarger 35 and a conventional analogue photo enlarger?
With the Smart Enlarger 35 you use the lens of your 35mm film camera and do not need a special lens. The mechanics of the Smart Enlarger 35 are designed so that this works without any problems. A special macro ring is included with every Smart Enlarger 35 to reduce the close focusing distance of your lens. The Smart Enlarger is also controlled using your smartphone. Settings such as exposure time and gradation can be selected with the SmartLab35 app. You can also start the exposure or activate the focus or safelight with the app
  • What types of film can be enlarged?
You can load all 35mm negative films into the Smart Enlarger 35 and print images of them .
  • Which focal lengths are supported?
In principle, you can use all focal lengths of your camera system on the Smart Enlarger 35. As a rule, you do not need a focal length wider than 35mm to utilise the maximum paper size. We usually use a 50mm lens.
  • How does the Smart Enlarger work?
In principle, the Smart Enlarger works like any other analogue photo enlarger. There is an LED light source in the head, which shines through the inserted negative. The lens is located below the negative plane. This projects the image onto the base plate onto which you place your photo paper. You set the magnification scale using the focal length of the selected lens and the set distance between the negative plane and the base plate.
  • What is the maximum paper size you can expose with your Smart Enlarger 35?
The maximum paper size that you can expose with your Smart Enlarger 35 depends on the focal length and the closest focusing distance of your lens. Our experience shows that you can expose paper measuring 9.45 x 12 inches with most 35mm lenses.
  • Is it possible to select the gradation of a multigrade paper?
Yes! You can preselect the paper gradation with the SmartLab35 app. It is adjustable in 0.1g steps from gradation level 00 to 5.0. In the app settings you can choose whether the exposure should be carried out in ‘Split’ or ‘Mix’ mode.
  • Will further lens mounts be added in the future?
In future we are planning to extend the compatibility to other camera systems . Just write us a message in what mount you will be interested in.
